The UNCCD Secretariat and the GM are co-hosting a workshop on the margins of COP 10 in Changwon, Republic of Korea, under the theme: "Enhancing Civil Society capacity for Resource Mobilisation in the Context of the UNCCD".
The event, which will be hosted on 16 October, brings together Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and experts with the objective of sharing lessons and exchanging knowledge on how to successfully mobilise financial resources for CSO activities and programmes, as well as discussing the engagement of CSOs as stakeholders within UNCCD integrated investment frameworks for sustainable land management (SLM).
Civil society is key to the successful implementation of the UNCCD given its role in advocacy and outreach, knowledge management, strategy development and overall programme planning and implementation.
However, a key constraint for CSO groups to implement activities to combat desertification and promote the restoration of productive lands has been a lack of access to or underutilization of financial resources. Hence, there is a clear need to support CSOs to enhance knowledge on existing, emerging and new financing opportunities, whilst building effective partnerships at national and international levels with a view to supporting them to mobilize SLM investments.
The workshop will build dialogue on how CSOs can effectively manage the process of mobilizing resources, from the research of potential contributors or donors to the submission of actual funding proposals. An overview on the financing options and entry points for CSOs will also be presented, as well as a practical session on the development of successful project proposals.
