29 September, 2008 - 18 October, 2008
Turrialba, Costa Rica & Michoacán, Mexico
The GM is running
two 5-day training workshops in Turrialba,
Costa Rica (29 September-3 October) and in Michoacán,
Mexico (13 -18 October) to develop particpants' competencies in mobilizing resources to combat desertification. The workshops aim to build national capacities to elaborate and implement national and multi-country financing strategies.
These training sessions are part of the GM’s
Designing Integrated Financing Strategies (DIFS) programme, the aim of which is to assist country Parties in securing dependable financing for sustainable land management (SLM) for UNCCD implementation.
DIFS draws on the
GM’s consolidated experience of mainstreaming National Action Programmes (NAPs) into national planning processes and overarching development frameworks with a view to mobilizing previously untapped national finance and unexplored innovative finance including from climate change mechanisms, trade and the private sector.
Each training session will bring together participants from 5 countries. Each country delegation will comprise: 5 representatives from government institutions including the Ministries of the Environment, Agriculture, Finance, and Planning where applicable.
Delegations from Honduras, Nicaragua, Belize, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica will meet in Turrialba, while Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, El Salvador, Cuba and Mexico, will attend the course in Michoacán.
Civil society organizations and bilateral and multilateral organizations, already working in partnership with the GM on SLM-related issues, have also been invited to attend.
