Partnership with the Central Africa Forests Commission

The Central Africa Forests Commission

Aware of the need to address land degradation and its serious economic, social and environmental impact within the sub-region, all the Central African countries, as members of the Central Africa Forests Commission (COMIFAC) have become Parties to the UNCCD.

Convention implementation is slow, however, due to the limited financial resources earmarked by national governments and allocated by their development partners.

In fact, Central Africa is the only sub-region which does not yet have a Sub-regional Action Programme (SRAP).

As result of the GM’s catalytic support, the SRAP elaboration process was launched in May 2005.

AFD, GTZ, UNDP and most inter-governmental organizations present in the sub-region, were partners in this process.

Today, Central Africa has a draft SRAP, which has obtained the consensus of nearly all partners and which will come before the sub-regional Council of Ministers for approval, in early 2007.
